The project intends to research and develop a micro-sensor system with applications in the oil extraction industry (drilling).
During the drilling procedure, supervisions of: pressure, temperature, hydrocarbons, H2S, radiations are necessary.
Unlike the micro-sensors usually developed, the applications of drilling in great depth present special functioning requirements (corrosive environment, high pressures and temperatures, mechanical stress and high vibrations).
Another problem is the transmission of the signal to the surface.
To ensure the efficacy of the operation, but mostly to prevent possible accidents with effects on the environment, a surveillance in real time is necessary.
Till this moment, no system of surveillance in real time of these parameters in the proximity of the drilling has been realised.
The research is multidisciplinary, involving staffs from oil extraction industry, micro-electonics, new materials science and has the main purpose engaging in a new sustainable relationship with the environment while improving competitiveness and strengthening European Industry.
There is the intention of application the HiTech technologies in a traditional technology for rising the activity efficacy, preventing loses (which is not the case, but it would mean a high degree of environment affectation), conservation and sustainable management of natural resources: waste management and prevention, soil protection and environmental technologies for observation, prevention, mitigation of the natural environment related to soil.
