Rasnov Fortress (Rosenau in German), is located on a rocky hilltop in the Carpathian Mountains, 200 m above the town of Rasnov. First mentioned in official documents in 1331, the fortress was built by Teutonic Knights as protection against invading Tatars and it was later enlarged by the local Saxon population. It was strategically located on the commercial route linking the provinces of Transylvania and Walachia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%A2%C8%99nov_Citadel ; http://wikitravel.org/en/Rasnov).
The old town of Brasov (Kronstadt in German) was founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 and it is one of the best preserved cities in all of Europe with splendid architecture and old fortifications. The city has history with influences from Germany, the Austria-Hungarian Empire (http://www.simplybrasov.com/brasovguide.html; http://wikitravel.org/en/Brasov; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bra%C8%99ov).
