The main purpose of the project is to obtain technologies allowing achieving a family of integrated piezoelectric micro biosensors, able to detect tuberculosis (Mycobacterium) in real time and to be used for monitoring the groups with high risk to fall ill, by testing in their own habitat. The detection will be made in liquid or/and gaseous environment. The testing technique on subjects is a non-invasive one.

The purpose of the project is twofold:

  • Developing technologies allowing achieving a family of integrated piezoelectric micro biosensors, able to detect tuberculosis (Mycobacterium) in real time and to be used for monitoring the groups with high risk to fall ill, by testing in their own habitat. The detection will be made in liquid or/and gaseous environment. The testing technique on subjects is a non-invasive one.

  • Implementing an integrated technological cluster polarizing the competences in the field of piezoelectric sensors and concentrating the existing knowledge and determining an expansion of the application area.

These desiderata impose three research directions: obtaining the optimum piezoelectric substrate, obtaining the microsensor layout and of execution technology, obtaining the sensitive materials. All these will be compatibilized for functionalizing the micro biosensor.

The technological cluster (not a technological network, because of the reduced dimensions) intends to identify the research groups (internal and international ones) with concerns in micro biosensors, knowledge transfer between cluster members and establishing a future strategy for the field of piezoelectric microsensors.
