Title: “Configurations and methods for tuning the resonance frequency of the substrate integrated waveguide resonant circuits”
Authors: Valentin Buiculescu, Angela Mihaela Băracu

Abstract

The invention relates to the configuration of resonant circuits based on shortcircuited substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) transmission lines to allow their resonant frequency to be changed. According to the invention, a SIW resonant circuit or a SIW resonant sensor with single signal port is converted into a frequency tunable structure by adding the group (6) of N tuning elements (7) located near the shortcircuiting wall (5). In the case of resonant sensors, the group of tuning elements (7) can only be located outside the sensing area SA.
The frequency tuning of these circuits can be carried out, depending on their constructive and/or technological type, by performing the following types of operations within one or more tuning elements (7),: (i) removal of the metal rod or any conductive layer, (ii) metallization, (iii) forming a conductive paste structure, or (iv) inserting a metal rod, if metallic or conductive elements of any kind are not present, or the pre-existing ones were removed previously, using any possible combination of these elements: one at a time, two at a time, and so on, up to their maximum number in group (6).
