Welcome to HEAD-NAS!

Paper-based microfluidic platform for the concentration and amplification of nucleic acids

Project duration:
February 17, 2021 - December 31, 2023
Project budget: 1.198.032 RON
Domain project: PE4_8 - Electrochemistry, electrodialysis, microfluidics, sensors; PE4_11 - Physical chemistry of biological systems

Objectives

The scope of the project is to design, fabricate and test a hybrid plastic-paper, sample-to-answer 3D modular-microfluidic POC platform. The platform integrates the sample preparation steps, nucleic acids amplification and detection, and aims at working with samples having a low concentration of NAs (102-10 3 DNA copies/mL). The integration of the previously mentioned steps on the same device will lead to an easy-to-operate and affordable microfluidic platform to be used with low resources. The POC microfluidic platform presents a huge application potential which can be developed during further national or European projects.

O1.Design and manufacturing of the 3D microfluidic platform and instrumentation
O2.Design and manufacturing of the electrochemical cell lysing module
O3.NAs pre-concentration module
O4.Nucleic acid amplification and detection
O5.A kit for testing enteric pathogens
