Research interests:
Development of silicon optoelectronic devices and circuits (photodiodes, phototransistors, photothyristors, opto-couplers, linear and digital integrated optoelectronic circuits).
- Design and modelling of optoelectronic devices and integrated circuits. Matching all the involved technologies. Experimental realization and optoelectrical characterization. Reliability testing.
Development of silicon photonic integrated circuits
- Design, modelling and realization and characterization of a new structure of photodetector optimized for optical coupling with waveguides. New materials (semiconductor, dielectric, organic) and processes for photonic circuits. Integration on the same silicon chip of photodetectors, waveguides, couplers. Soft simulator for optimal design of grating coupler. 3D modelling of the subsistem waveguide-coupling element- photodiode.
Development of chemo-optical sensors
- Design and realization of chemo-optical sensors.
Development of Si-based emitting devices
- Development of new materials (nanostructured silicon, Si-alloys, organic materials), and processes for obtaining light emitting diodes compatible with CMOS technology.
Development of new materials, processes and structures for Si-based MOEMS and photonic devices
- Experimental realization of micromechanical structures for positioning and alignment (by bulk micromachining). Hybrid integration of light sources Silicon micromachining for MOEMS.
- New materials and processes (polymers , sol-gel layers- anorganic and hybrid) for integrated optics
